What is arbitration?

Arbitration is an informal process in which two parties present their views of a dispute to a neutral third party, an arbitrator, who will decide how to resolve the dispute.

Who are the arbitrators?

ESLJUDGE arbitrators are volunteers from the ESL community who have agreed to assist in resolving disputes between schools and teachers. There will always be three arbitrators reviewing each case: one that is a school owner, one that is a manager and one that is a teacher. Arbitrators whom, for whatever reason, cannot remain impartial about a case are asked to remove themselves from the process.

They are normally not paid for their services.

The arbitration process

The complainant will submit their case via the online complaint form.
The school will have an opportunity to respond.
This process will be repeated twice or until the arbitrators feel they have enough evidence to make a ruling.

The arbitration decision

The entire process normally will take about 3 weeks.
Once a decision has been reached the parties will be informed and given 2 weeks to comply with the decision.
